OAA Compassion Fund for Hurricane Melissa Disaster Relief
Eastern Cuba is still in shock from the aftermath of the damage caused by hurricane Melissa. Melissa was a category 3 when it entered through the santiago de cuba and devastated mostly the eastern provinces, leaving 11 persons dead and hundreds of homes destroyed, among other damage. Authorities said about 735,000 people remained in shelters.
The OAA Compassion Fund has been established to support victims of Hurricane Melissa in Cuba, Haiti, and the Dominican Republic. With the funds raised, OAA intends to provide MannaPack packets of nutrient-rich dried rice and vegetables for quick consumption. Each packet can feed up to four people, and a single 40-foot container contains 45,000 packets.
Our focus will be on sending containers of humanitarian assistance and hygiene kits to Cuba, along with hygiene products to Haiti. OAA is partnering with local vetted faith partners evangelical and Catholic to conduct the distribution. Our main concern is to facilitate disaster relief operations to rapidly reduce the suffering of the victims so to that degree we are strategically guiding our Cuban partners to organize distribution and obtain the necessary permits from the government so we can send them the needed supplied.
Cash donations are the most efficient form of assistance. We need help monetary to cover the logistics costs for both air and maritime shipments. Additionally, we’re negotiating the distribution of protein food combos to Cuba.
We are collaborating with charitable organizations in the United States that are providing these products. Please note that we are not able to receive food, clothing, or other assistance directly, as we lack the structure for sorting and packing. However, there are other organizations in Miami that are currently handling those efforts.
